An Evansville man is in custody, accused of firing a rifle at a car occupied by a woman and her young child. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
It happened early Monday in the 100 block of First Ave., just north of the Lloyd Expressway.
EPD Sgt. Anna Gray says the victims told officers that they had pulled into a parking lot and noticed a man, later identified as Aaron Lee Johnson, standing on a nearby balcony holding a rifle.
The woman said Johnson aimed the gun at them and fired a shot.
The victims said it sounded like the bullet hit the ground beside the driver’s side door and they were not wounded.
Gray says officers tried to get Johnson to surrender from his apartment, but he made threats to shoot himself and officers.
Eventually, police say Johnson dropped the rifle out of a window and they took him into custody.
Officers also said they found illegal drugs in Johnson’s apartment.
Johnson faces charges including Attempted Murder, Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon, and Dealing Schedule 1 Narcotics.
