IN Senators Differ on Debt Ceiling Bill

File

Young voted yes, Braun voted no

Indiana’s two U.S. Senators split their votes on the debt ceiling bill. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Senior Senator Todd Young voted for the measure saying it makes “modest but substantive spending and budget reforms,” and ensures the U.S will not default on its debt obligations.

In a release, Young said the bill does not go as far as he and many others would like. He called it “a compromise that should be just an initial step toward addressing our nation’s fiscal challenges.”

Meanwhile, Indiana’s Junior Senator Mike Braun voted against the measure.

He proposes getting rid of the so-called debt ceiling “X date” and instead automatically cut 1% of discretionary spending every 30 days -- not including entitlements -- until Congress makes a deal.

Braun says it would push Congress to make a budget to avoid cuts to policy priorities from both parties.
