School Summer feeding programs are in full swing starting this week in practically all local counties. Here, children are fed in Owensboro in 2019.

According to the USDA in 2019 an estimated 142.1 million lunches were served to children across the US; guide includes Vanderburgh, Posey, Gibson, Warrick, Henderson and Daviess

The USDA has partnered with many local schools to create Summer Feeding Programs. With these programs, children under age 18 can receive breakfast and lunch most days of the week.

Visit the USDA website to reference a interactive summer feeding site map.

Below is a guide for several local schools and school districts.

Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation
Below are all of the schools in the EVSC offering breakfast (8:15-8:45) and lunch (lunch times are listed next to school).

With the exception of Bosse High School, dates are from June 5th- June 30th. Bosse High School’s breakfast program will be running from May 30- June 30th.

These programs will not be in operation June 19th and July 4th.

Henderson County:
Jefferson Elementary School, Bend Gate Elementary School, North Middle School, and Henderson County High School are all offering free lunches.

They will be operating daily for breakfast (7:30am-8:30am) and lunch (10:30am-12:30pm).

There is also a mobile route that offers lunch from 10:30am-12:30pm and in this time frame, there are 11 different stops at which these lunches will be offered.

This meal service lasts from May 31 until July 28 and will be closed the entire week of the Fourth of July.

Warrick County:
Chandler Elementary School and Oakdale Elementary Schools will be offering breakfast (8:00am-9:00am) and lunch (11:00am-12:00pm).

Breakfast and lunch will be served five days a week May 31-June 24.

Meals will be served in the school cafeteria and must be eaten on site.

Meals will also only be served to those 18 years and younger.

North Gibson County
Princeton Community Primary School and Lafayette Park in Princeton will be offering lunch from 11:30am-12:30pm Monday through Thursday.

These services will be offered from May 29 until June 28.

Owensboro Public Schools
It began May 30th, and ends July 28th. There will be no meal service June 19 and July 4, or on weekends.

The district will be serving breakfast and lunch for anyone under 18 years of age at seven non-mobile sites and four mobile food service units.

District Public Information Officer Jared Revlett said they served more than 117,500 meals summer of 2022, and about 75-percent of students would qualify for free-and-reduced lunches.

“… so for a lot of those students, the only meals that they get throughout the year come from the school district, so the breakfast and lunch that they get every school day, you know, that may be the only meal that they get, they may not have that opportunity when they get home.”

Revlett said children need not be an OPS student, or necessarily an Owensboro resident.

One change from last year is that the USDA is lifting COVID-era rules governing these feeding sites, Revlett said.

“So since 2020, everybody has been able to come pick up a meal and then leave, that's no longer the case.”

He said feeding locations will now also include some sort of programming at the sites.
