Monroe Sculpture Loaned to Bluegrass HOF

Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Museum

The Grand Ole Opry has loaned the sculpture "long term"

A bronze sculpture of Bill Monroe is on display at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Owensboro. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

The sculpture of the music icon has been installed in the Hall of Fame’s lobby thanks to a long-term loan from the Grand Ole Opry.

The Hall of Fame says the sculpture of Monroe was commissioned by the Opry to celebrate its 70th anniversary in 1995.

The work by artist Steve Shields was presented to Monroe onstage during the celebration. Video footage of the presentation is included in the display.

In a release, Hall of Fame executive director Chris Joslin said “If there was a Mt. Rushmore of the Grand Ole Opry, Bill Monroe would be one of its most recognizable faces.”
