Resident removed from fire scene; Firefighter hurt in window collapse

A resident and a firefighter were injured in a house fire in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

Crews were dispatched to 211 E Iowa St. early Wednesday morning.

Division Chief Mike Larson says firefighters found flames coming from the front door and the front porch.

Larson says EPD officers helped move the home’s occupant away from the blaze.

He said the occupant appeared to have minor injuries.

Firefighters extinguished the flames in about 15 minutes but remained on scene for about an hour looking for hotspots.

During the operation, Larson said a portion of an exterior window frame fell on an EFD firefighter.

He was able to walk to an on-scene AMR ambulance and given first aid. The firefighter was transported to Deaconess Midtown for tests and observation.

The fire is under investigation.

More: The injured firefighter was released from Deaconess Midtown Hospital Wednesday morning and was home resting comfortably. He was given his next shift off to recuperate.
