Indiana’s junior senator is urging President Joe Biden to negotiate with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
U.S. Senator Mike Braun stood with his Republican Senate colleagues on Wednesday, calling on Biden to reach an agreement with the speaker to cut what Braun calls “federal overspending.”
McCarthy will meet with Biden next week at the White House.
Senator Braun voiced his support for McCarthy’s bill that narrowly passed the House but was rejected by Democratic leaders in the Senate.
The measure would raise the nation’s debt ceiling but cut federal spending, including Biden’s federal student loan forgiveness program.
Officials say the U.S. could default as soon as June 1st.
