A tiger at Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden will be leaving soon. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
Mesker is inviting residents to visit the Zoo over the next few weeks to bid farewell to Nuri the tiger.
She will be moving to the Erie Zoo in Pennsylvania for an extensive renovation of a holding area at Mesker.
The zoo says the renovation is needed to maintain modern zoological standards and to allow more training opportunities.
Nuri enters the below-ground space daily to facilitate her zookeepers caring for her.
The zoo’s Malayan Sun bear also uses the off-exhibit space, so he will be temporarily housed elsewhere in the zoo while the work is underway.
Mesker says it will work with the Tiger Species Survival Plan to identify a new tiger for the zoo in the future.
Nuri was born in the Milwaukee County Zoo in 2009 and came to Mesker Park Zoo in 2016.
