Roca Bar to Close Original Location

Roca Bar

The establishment on S. Kentucky Avenue is moving to the former Schnuck's grocery on Washington

The restaurant that calls itself Evansville’s first pizzeria is closing its original location. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

On its Facebook page, the Roca Bar says it will close the restaurant at 1618 S. Kentucky Avenue at the end of April.

It will move to a new location at 4600 Washington Avenue, in the former Schnuck’s grocery store.

Roca Bar owners thanked the bar’s “loyal customers” and said they look forward to seeing them at the new location May 15th.

Roca Bar opened in 1953, when S. Kentucky was U.S. 41 – the main north-south route through Evansville.

Over its 70 years, the bar became known for its Italian salad almost as much as for its pizza.

A North Side location opened in 2010 but closed in 2021.

A Newburgh location later became Archie and Clyde’s.
