The mayor of Rockport has died. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
His family says Mayor Donnie Winkler passed away Monday after suffering a heart attack last week.
The Republican was elected Rockport Mayor in 2019.
The city’s website says Winkler graduated from Rockport High School in 1964, studied electronics at what is now ITT Technical Institute, joined the National Guard in 1966, and married his wife, Peggy Bretz-Winkler in 1967.
The couple has four sons.
Services are set for this weekend at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The Spencer County Republican Party will caucus to select Winkler’s successor.
