IDEM warns of unhealthy air in SW IN

As the temperature rises, so does the risk of ozone pollution. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has declared an Air Quality Action Day in Southwest Indiana for Thursday.

Officials say the combination of sunshine and light winds may increase levels of unhealthy, ground-level ozone.

Kids, older adults, and anyone with respiratory issues are urged to take precautions, like limiting physical exertion outdoors.

IDEM also has tips to reduce vehicle emissions, like carpooling, walking, bicycling, or using public transportation when possible.

Drivers are also asked to wait until evening to refuel vehicles and to avoid excess idling.

Residents are also urged to postpone using gas-powered garden equipment or mowing the lawn until the evening.

Experts recommend working from home to reduce emissions, if your employer provides that option.
