Pickleball Ordinance Pushed to April

The city council will discuss it April 4th with a vote set for April 10th

The Evansville City Council has postponed a vote on whether to prohibit pickleball courts in Wesselman Park. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The council voted 7-to-2 to table action on the ordinance until next month.

Councilman Zach Heronemus asked for the delay due to his concerns, including something he said he recently learned:

"This ordinance has the capacity to jeopardize Next Level Trails grant funding that could be very beneficial to the further development of Roberts Park."

That project is adjacent to Wesselman Park, and a site that opponents of the pickleball courts in Wesselman have suggested would be a better location.

Heronemus said the city council has heard both support and opposition to the courts in Wesselman:

"We've not had good discussion and debate as a council."

The council voted to conduct a committee meeting on the afternoon of April 4th, in which the city will make a presentation and public comments will be accepted.

The final city council vote on the ordinance is planned for April 10th.
