The Fraternal Order of Police has endorsed a candidate for Evansville mayor before the May Primary. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The FOP Lodge 73 Political Action Committee unanimously recommended Republican Cheryl Musgrave, and members of the lodge voted to endorse her.
FOP Vice President Mark Saltzman announced the endorsement:
"Cheryl Musgrave has a proven track record of success when it comes to improving the lives of those in her community."
Musgrave, who is currently Vanderburgh County Commission President, thanked supporters at the FOP Lodge for what she called a “great honor”:
"From day one, I pledge to put public safety at the core of my agenda. The FOP needs and deserves to be supported with full staffing, competitive pay, proper equipment, vehicles, and training."
Saltzman said the FOP PAC interviewed all three mayoral candidates, Musgrave, Republican Natalie Rascher and Democrat Stephanie Terry in recent weeks and did extensive research before making its recommendation.
For her part, Rascher released a “playbook for public safety” this week, calling for leadership and collaboration, a focus on neighborhoods, community involvement, quality equipment and working conditions, and an open door policy for police officers and firefighters.
