A house fire has displaced a family on Evansville’s West Side. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
Firefighters were dispatched to the home at 2805 Hillcrest Terrace on Thursday.
EFD Division Chief Mike Larson says the first crew on scene reported flames and black smoke coming from a side door to the kitchen.
Larson says firefighters quickly knocked down the main body of fire. The blaze was considered extinguished in about 15 minutes.
Larson says two residents were watching TV in the front room when they heard noises coming from the kitchen.
One of them went to the kitchen and found smoke and flames on the stove top and cabinets.
He alerted a son who was upstairs and they all evacuated the house.
Larson said the kitchen was heavily damaged and three adults were displaced.
Investigators ruled the fire accidental. They say the stove had been accidentally turned on.
The Red Cross was contacted to help the family.
