High Winds Knock Out Power to Thousands

File

The winds accompanied a cold front Thursday afternoon

High winds have caused power outages in the Evansville area. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

CenterPoint Energy reported more than 4,200 customers without power Thursday afternoon as winds toppled trees and pulled down power lines.

Crews reduced the number of outages in southwest Indiana to about 1,000 by mid-afternoon.

The National Weather Service recorded wind gusts of more than 40 miles an hour.

The high winds accompanied a cold front that dropped temperatures from the mid-50’s into the 40’s.

Forecasters issued a Wind Advisory as the front approached.

Winds are expected to gradually slow down, with only a light breeze expected by Saturday.
