Evansville firefighters have been honored for their life-saving service. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
EFD leaders presented the awards for heroic actions in a July house fire and a water rescue in August.
During the house fire, firefighters rescued seven people -- including a toddler who crews passed through an open window.
Sadly, the toddler, Ophelia Young, would later die at the hospital.
Young’s family attended Wednesday’s ceremony, as the three firefighters were honored with bronze merit awards.
The entire crew received a company citation.
Meanwhile, officials awarded firefighter Daniel Brown a silver merit award after he witnessed a woman fall from a bridge while he was off duty.
Brown dove into the water and saved the woman’s life.
