About a half-inch recorded Sunday, more on Halloween

Will Sunday’s rain put an end to Vanderburgh County’s Open Burn Emergency? As WNIN’s John Gibson reports, not yet:

The county extended the emergency on Friday before the National Weather Service recorded about a half-inch of rain at Evansville Regional Airport on Sunday.

The county’s extension is for 30 days but can be rescinded sooner.

Scattered showers were in the forecast Monday.

For now, the county prohibits open burning unless you have written permission from the fire department in your area.

Violating the ban can carry a fine of $500.

Southwest Indiana has been in a moderate drought for several weeks.
