The Evansville area received some badly-needed rain on Tuesday, but more is needed.
The National Weather Service measured just over a half-inch of rain at Evansville Regional Airport.
That’s the biggest one-day total of rain in several weeks but it may not be enough to prompt authorities to drop an Open Burn Emergency in Vanderburgh County.
Due to dry conditions, the county says anyone who sets, attempts to set, or allows an open fire can be fined $500 if convicted.
That includes fire pits.
The exceptions are grills used for cooking and those who first obtain a written permit from the fire department having primary jurisdiction over where the fire is planned.
