Nearly $1.5 million is headed to the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation to help attract, prepare, and retain teachers. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
The Indiana Department of Education announced the EVSC is one of 29 recipients that will share a $10.6 million grant.
State Rep. Ryan Hatfield of Evansville calls the effort to address educator shortages “transformational.”
The education department says the recipients of the grant demonstrated a commitment to supporting the professional development of teachers.
Strategies include growing the number of opportunities for high school students and minority populations to pursue careers as educators.
The Indiana Department of Education has also developed a new online job board which highlights more than 1,500 open positions for teachers across the state.
