Mt. Vernon Lifts Boil Advisory

It was issued Tuesday after a chemical violated a drinking water standard

The city of Mt. Vernon has lifted its city-wide boil water order.

It was issued Tuesday when officials said the water system “recently violated a drinking water standard.”

A release from the water utility said it was caused by a chemical which is used to deter zebra mussels – a small mollusk native to Europe and Asia.
