Emge's Closes after 46 Years

Facebook

Downtown diner recently moved to North Park

An Evansville sandwich shop is closing its doors after more than 45 years. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Emge’s Deli and Diner was a mainstay on Main St. in Downtown Evansville before moving to N. First Ave.

Now, Emge’s has announced on its Facebook page that it’s shutting down.

The restaurant says it wasn’t able to recover from the impact of the pandemic and to stay in business, would have had to raise prices so high it wouldn’t be able to compete.

Before leaving Main St., Emge’s faced competition from nearby Subway and Jimmie John’s sandwich shops.

Business reportedly improved at the new location but not enough to keep the shop open.

Another privately-owned restaurant in Downtown Evansville, Bits and Bytes, closed its doors last month.
