Tap water may contain “disease-causing organisms”

A city-wide boil water advisory has been issued in Mt. Vernon. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Officials say the town in Posey County issued the advisory because its water system “recently violated a drinking water standard.”

They say there’s an increased chance the water may contain “disease-causing organisms.”

It’s not clear what caused the potential problem.

Mt. Vernon water customers are urged to bring tap water to a “vigorous rolling boil” for at least two minutes before using it for drinking or cooking.

The utility said it will notify customers when the advisory is lifted.
