Evansville’s Fire Chief has been named Chief of the Year across a five-state region. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
Chief Mike Connelly won the honor from the International Association of Fire Chiefs Great Lakes Division.
He told reporters that his nomination came from the local department, but:
"Everybody's pretty tight-lipped about who made the nomination. I do not know"
Connelly says the association cited several achievements:
"Commitment to firefighter health and wellness, cancer reduction, and mental health, and then also leading by example — not asking others to do what I wouldn't do myself."
Connelly says he was “flabbergasted” to win:
"What every other firefighter says when you hand them an award: I was just doing my job."
Connelly is expected to receive the trophy at a conference next month.
