State Rep says it's not the right time for his family

The list of potential candidates for Evansville Mayor has gotten shorter. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Indiana State Representative Ryan Hatfield tells WNIN that he won’t seek the mayor’s office in 2023.

The Democrat says he discussed the idea with his wife and they decided it’s not the right time for him or his family to “run for or serve as mayor.”

Hatfield says he will “continue to cherish” his service at the Statehouse and looks forward to “continuing to serve in that capacity.”

He represents District 77, which includes much of Evansville.

Republican Mayor Lloyd Winnecke announced in July that he would not seek a fourth term.

One prominent member of the local GOP, Vanderburgh County Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave, announced her candidacy for mayor before Winnecke made it official that he wasn’t running.
