The number of CenterPoint customers without power dropped to about 5,000 Wednesday morning

CenterPoint Energy says it’s made “significant progress” in restoring power in the Evansville area. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Monday’s storms knocked out power to more than 30,000 customers in southwest Indiana.

By Wednesday morning, that number was down to just over 5,000.

CenterPoint Senior Vice President Richard Leger says the company secured additional contract crews to assist in the restoration efforts.

The company says the restoration process begins with facilities like hospitals, water treatment plants, and public service facilities – including firehouses.

The utility company says then, the largest outages take priority to get as many people back online as possible.

Those tied to smaller outages take longer.

CenterPoint also says reminds customers if your weatherhead – the point of entry from the service drop to the home – a licensed electrician will need to make repairs before power can be restored.
