According to Amanda Mossiman, the Agriculture and Natural Resource Extension Educator for Purdue University extension, there are 830 children and volunteers involved in 4H activities at this year’s county fair.
“For us, it's just from the 4H department perspective, it's really just the kids capstone project,” Mossiman said. “4H Week is a big week for us …”
She says while Warrick County has a smaller population than Vanderburgh the 4H Fair is a big event here.
“The entire county gets involved,” she said. “We have lots of civic organizations and nonprofits that are out there. Lots of business support. … I think that continues to surprise me every year. And I hope everybody else is proud of it as we are.”
Mossiman says that while the core of their fair are 4H activities, there are events like motocross and mud volleyball at night.
“So we have a motocross Monday night. We have mud volleyball and mud dodgeball Tuesday nights. So we welcome the public — get a team together and come on out and get a little muddy Tuesday night. It's going to be a good time.”
Mossiman says they also have demolition derby and unique things like the farm combine derby and tough truck challenge.
“Our fair is still heavily involved with the 4H program," she said. "So we we have a really great marriage of both public events and four h events all through the week.”
