Posey County Fair: Affordability with Family Fun
Professional rodeo is returning; new for 2022 are 21-and-up beer garden, more tractors
The Posey County Fair will draw families from Poseyville, Wadesville, New Harmony and Mount Vernon all into one location.
Jake McGennis, vice president of the Posey County Fair Board of Directors, said such a gathering is essential.
“Just the camaraderie and socialization that I think in today's world is very important, especially county wide, just to get people out involved, meeting and being social,” he said. “I think that's something I kind of take a lot of pride in and joy during our fair week.”
He said they also take pride in being an affordable family-friendly event. The gate fee is $7 and aside from food there’s no cost to anything else, and children under 10 get in free.
There’s even a very large children’s area with scavenger hunts, putt-putt golf and more.
Last year was their first featuring a professional rodeo. “It was such a hit last year, we've made it a two-night Professional Rodeo,” McGennis said. “So we've got professional rodeo, trick riders and then bull riders, (broncos) and other activities that you would see in a professional rodeo.”
He said they've also added an additional class to their tractor pull, 21-and-older beer garden and Nashville performer Drew Parker is coming in for a concert on Friday.
He said his team is ready.
“It's sneaking up on us. But we've got a really awesome Fair Board. All the members have been putting in a ton of time this year, getting the fairgrounds ready,” he said. “And we're pumped, we're ready to roll into the fair week.”
Warrick County and Henderson County fairs are also starting at the same time this coming week. The Gibson County Fair started July 11.
