City of Evansville allows fireworks June 29 to July 9

The Fourth of July is less than a week away, and authorities are reminding residents about fireworks laws. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Many area residents have already stocked up on sparklers, firecrackers, and bottle rockets, so the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is offering tips to stay safe and legal this Independence Day.

State law allows you to discharge fireworks on your property until 11 PM.

You can also use fireworks on property that you have permission to use, or at a special discharge location authorized by the fire department.

If you are under 18 years of age, you must have an adult present to possess or use fireworks.

The sheriff’s office reminds local residents that the July Fourth fireworks display on the Ohio River offers a safe way to celebrate the holiday.

It begins at about 9:15 Monday night along Dress Plaza.

The city of Evansville allows fireworks between 10:00 a.m. and midnight on Independence Day, and between 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. between June 29th and July 9th.

Sheriff’s Lt. Noah Robinson says Indiana’s fireworks law is fairly permissive, but there are limits.

He asks that residents be considerate of others and exercise some common sense.
