The annual event is launching at shady Audubon Mill Park in Henderson

Despite soaring temperatures, a Henderson tradition starts Wednesday evening. WNIN’s Sarah Kuper has more on the W. C. Handy Blues and Barbeque Festival and what officials are saying about the heat:

Abby Dixon is the Henderson Tourism Director. Like the temperatures, she says the music and the food of the 31st W.C. Handy Blues and Barbeque Festival will be hot:

“Zydeco night with red beans and rice, even if you don’t think you like blues, you will find something you like”

Dixon says while the festival will go on as planned even in record heat, organizers are aware that the heat poses some risks. Here is her advice:

“Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, we will have emergency tents. Pop into one of our downtown shops or restaurants. The park is mostly shaded and we are hoping for a breeze off the river!”

For WNIN News, I’m Sarah Kuper.
