Police have charged an Evansville man with the murder of his grandmother. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
40-year-old John Stevens is charged with the death of 85-year-old Betty Stevens.
She was found deceased in her backyard in the 400 block of E. Michigan St. last Friday.
Evansville Police say John Stevens was the one who called 9-1-1 to report his grandmother’s death.
The EPD says officers arrested Stevens that day on charges unrelated to the death, but have now added the murder charge.
Stevens remains at the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center.
The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office determined Betty Stevens died from strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head.
