EFD: Saturday's blaze was an apparent accident

A weekend house fire in Evansville sent a person to the hospital. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Firefighters were dispatched to 1722 E Illinois St. on Saturday and found black smoke coming from the eves of the house.

EFD Division Chief Mike Larson said crews performed an “aggressive interior attack” and found fire in the kitchen.

Larson said the blaze was considered extinguished in about 20 minutes.

The occupant was found in the living room and pulled outside before firefighters arrived. That person was treated and taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Larson said fire damage was contained to the kitchen with smoke damage throughout the home.

He said the cause of the fire is under investigation but it appeared to be accidental.
