Rain Barrel Contest Begins During First Friday

Facebook

WNIN is among the participants

First Fridays at Haynie’s Corner begin this week. The event in Evansville includes live music, food, and arts and crafts. Creations for one booth have area non-profits, including WNIN, getting creative about water conservation. WNIN’s Sarah Kuper has more:

Having a rain barrel in the backyard is one way to let Mother Nature take care of garden irrigation between rainy days.

The Haynie’s Corner Art District is encouraging the use of these barrels with a rain barrel decorating contest and auction. The Evansville City Engineers Office along with Coca Cola, have provided fifty rain barrels to area organizations that can paint and auction them off during First Fridays throughout the summer.

The Arts District has a few requirements for participants but has left the creative design up to participating organizations like WNIN. The station’s design is still in development but will be available along with other creations on June 6th.
