The "American Pie" singer is celebrating the song's 50th anniversary

The man who wrote and sang the song “American Pie” will perform in Evansville this summer. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Don McLean is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his iconic song and the album of the same name.

He will bring the celebration to Evansville’s Victory Theater on Friday, July 22nd.

Venue Works of Evansville says McLean’s performance will be part of a nearly 30-city tour from Honolulu to Toronto.

The 8.5 minute anthem about early rock and roll was first released in 1971.

McLean is a Grammy award honoree, a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
