Jasper has won a nationwide “strongest town” competition. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The town in Dubois County defeated fellow finalist Norwood, Ohio in the competition conducted by strongtowns.org
Jasper applied for the contest and was named among 16 small cities placed in a “March Madness” type bracket.
On its website, Strong Towns said voters chose Jasper over Norwood by about 51 percent to 49 percent.
The group praised Jasper for what it called a deep impression round after round, with one of its great strengths the Heart of Jasper, a diverse group of organizations that leverages existing assets, transforms those in need, and instills new energy through creative programs and collaborative leadership.
Strong Towns said Jasper is careful to listen to its residents and to build community engagement, but also minds its financial health with its solid Impact Jasper community investment plan.
Strong Towns’ founder and president, Charles Marohn, is expected to visit Jasper in the coming months and present the 2022 Championship Award.
