Mesker Zoo Euthanizes Clouded Leopard

Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden

The staff said Miri was suffering from renal failure

Mesker Park Zoo is mourning the loss of a clouded leopard. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

On its Facebook page, the Zoo and Botanic Garden said officials decided to euthanize the 18-year-old big cat named Miri.

Officials said the leopard was suffering from renal failure.

The median life expectancy for a clouded leopard is about 13, so Miri was one of the oldest in managed populations.

Miri came to live at Mesker in March, 2005 from the Columbus Zoo.

Mesker says she developed quite the fan base as guests tried to find the elusive girl taking advantage of her natural camouflage as she napped, explored, and played in her habitat.

The staff dubbed the elegant cat “Princess Miri.”
