DAACE to Keep Up Pressure to Lower Skyrocketing Utility Bills

DAACE

The group has been going before city council and filing complaints with the IURC

A group concerned about high utility bills plans to keep pressing the Evansville City Council. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

Heather Lobeck is a spokeswoman for the group Direct Action Against CenterPoint Energy.

Lobeck tells WNIN News she knows the city doesn’t have the power to regulate CenterPoint’s bills but they may have connections:

"They have direct lines to some of the people that can directly influence those rates or can help us get those decreased. And we don't have the direct links to those people as they might."

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission has jurisdiction over utility companies, and Lobeck urges residents to let their concerns be known:

"You can file a complaint with the IURC. Hundreds if not thousands of us have done so. And right now, we're just getting just kind of template responses back."

CenterPoint warned residents last fall that natural gas prices might rise, pushing bills higher.

The Texas-based company has said it wants to keep an open dialogue with its customers.

The city of Evansville will continue to freeze sewer rates through next year, but water bills will rise to pay for a new treatment plant.
