Red Cross and First Federal Raising Money for Ukraine

File

Monetary donations can be made at any First Federal location in SW Indiana

An Evansville-based bank is partnering with the Red Cross to help people in war-ravaged Ukraine. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The President and CEO of First Federal Savings Bank, Michael Head, told reporters Thursday the bank is responding to the crisis in Ukraine:

"In response to this devastation, we are announcing our partnership with the American Red Cross to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees relief."

Beth Sweeney is the executive director of the Evansville Red Cross. She says the agency is on the ground:

"International Red Cross teams are providing food, water, and hygiene items. They're also providing first aid treatment to those who have stayed in Ukraine that may be sheltering in areas like metro stations and bomb shelters."

All nine First Federal locations in southwest Indiana are accepting monetary donations for the Red Cross.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke said donations will help families on the other side of the world who can probably never thank you:

"But know that it will be a meaningful contribution and it will change their lives in a way we'll never be able to know."
