EFD "Very Proud" of Improved ISO Rating

EFD: The rating puts the local department among the top 2.5 percent in Indiana

The Evansville Fire Department is touting a higher rating from a nationwide service. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Every five years, the Insurance Services Office visits fire departments across the country.

The organization analyzes departments’ operations and scores them from 1 to 10 on how well the departments protect their communities -- 10 being the minimum recognized protection.

EFD Division Chief Mike Larson says the local department is “very proud” that its ISO rating improved from a 3 to a 2.

Larson says out of more than 1,300 fire departments in Indiana, only 33 achieved an ISO rating of 2 or higher. That means the EFD is in the top 2.5% of fire departments across the state.

He says the EFD also ranks in the top 5.6% of fire departments across the U.S.

The Evansville Fire Department operates 13 stations across the city. Its administration building is at 550 SE 8th St.
