Yet another Dubois county turkey farm has presumptive cases of the highly contagious Avian Flu. WNIN’s Sarah Kuper has more on the outbreak:
February 9th is when a Dubois County turkey farm first reported suspicions of avian flu, now the Indiana Bureau of Animal Health has announced the pathogen has spread to a fourth nearby farm.
The latest farm houses more than 16,000 birds, all of which have to be euthanized. Officials are taking extensive measures to stop the spread including quarantines, testing and ultimately eliminating entire flocks.
This latest outbreak is the fourth in Dubois County but the sixth in the state. Two commercial farms in Greene county have been affected.
Animal Health officials continue to reach out to known backyard poultry owners to schedule tests of their birds. So far, 74 backyard flocks have been sampled and though all have been found negative, officials still encourage hobby farmers to call 317-544-2387 for free testing.
