It's the first step toward moving to NCAA Division 1

The University of Southern Indiana is joining the Ohio Valley Conference as it prepares for a jump to Division One sports. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

USI President Ron Rochon and OVC President Beth DeBauche pulled down a curtain to reveal the OVC logo at Screaming Eagles Arena Wednesday morning.

DeBauche congratulated USI:

"This is the right time for this decision. And I really want to commend Dr. Rochon, the Chairman Jon Mark for their work and such a thorough and deliberative process to consider Division 1 membership. This was truly done the absolute right way, looking at all the issues that were involved."

Rochon thanked the USI community:

"This is an opportunity that has been developed because of our faculty and our staff, and our students, this community. No one else can take credit for this. This is not an "I" moment. This is the biggest "we" moment you could ever imagine."

The Ohio Valley Conference will conduct its fifth consecutive tournament at Evansville’s Ford Center in early March.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke said the partnership with USI will only strengthen the city‘s relationship with the OVC.
