One day after USI’s Board of Trustees voted to move the university to the NCAA’s top division, the university said it’s ready to announce a conference partnership. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
USI says it will announce on Wednesday which Division One conference it will join for the 2022-23 season.
In a release, the university says it’s the next step before making a formal Division One bid to the NCAA by June 1st.
USI would start competing in Division One this fall, beginning a four-year transition process.
The Eagles would leave the Division 2 Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Two Division One spots where USI might land: the Ohio Valley Conference which is losing three teams, and the Horizon League which is losing one.
