Eight Dogs Die in House Fire, People Escape

File

Flames were shooting from the house on Allens Lane when firefighters arrived

Eight dogs were killed and a family displaced in a weekend house fire in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Firefighters were dispatched to 831 Allens Lane Saturday afternoon and found flames coming from all sides of the house.

In a release, EFD Division Chief Mike Larson said the occupants -- four adults and two children -- were able to escape but eight dogs succumbed to the fire.

Animal Control was called to the scene.

Larson said one of the adults was watching TV, smelled smoke, and found flames on a bed.

He tried to extinguish the fire with a blanket but couldn’t and got everyone out of the house.

Larson said firefighters put out the blaze in about 30 minutes, but the house was severely damaged. The fire also damaged siding on a neighboring house.

Larson said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents, who were staying with family members.
