The National Weather Service predicted up to 3 inches for the Evansville area

Even before the first snowflakes flew, several western Kentucky schools either canceled classes or decided to conduct classes online. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

School districts that canceled classes on Thursday included Henderson and Daviess counties.

Schools that conducted virtual classes included Union and Webster counties.

A Winter Weather Advisory remained in effect for the Evansville area until 4:00 Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service predicted one-to-three inches of snow in the Tri-State, with the highest amounts expected in western Kentucky.

Parts of western Kentucky, including Madisonville and Hartford, were under a Winter Storm Warning.

Transportation crews pre-treated some roadways before the snowfall but several accidents were reported in the Evansville area during morning commute.

The snow also ushered in the coldest air of the season, so far.

Temperatures were expected to fall into the single digits Thursday night with sub-zero wind chills.
