Health director calls rates "extremely high"

Seven more COVID-19 related deaths and more than 700 new infections have been recorded in western Kentucky.

The Green River District Health Department added five fatalities in Daviess County, where the pandemic death toll reached 312.

The other two deaths were in McLean and Ohio counties.

The department also tallied 732 new infections in the seven-county district between last Tuesday and Monday.

The recoding period was longer than usual due to the Christmas holiday.

The seven-day average for new infections fell to about 108 cases a day.

But in a release, District Health Director Clay Horton cited what he called “extremely high incidence rates of COVID-19.”

He again urged residents to get vaccinated and boosted against the virus.
