Senator Joe Donnelly

U.S. Sens. Joe Donnelly and Todd Young say they’re working to continue Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy as they try to spread his message of love and unity.

Attendance at the annual event to celebrate Dr. King’s life was perhaps a bit dampened by adverse weather outside. But speakers inside the Statehouse said that didn’t diminish the importance of their message. Sen. Young (R-Ind.) borrowed what he calls one of his favorite King phrases, saying we should all be “custodians of hope.”

Indiana Senators Split On $1.4 Trillion Tax Bill

Dec 2, 2017

Indiana’s U.S. senators split on the landmark tax overhaul bill as the Senate voted overnight Saturday 51 to 49 to advance the measure.

The legislation lowers the corporate rate to 20 percent and – at least temporarily – lowers taxes for most individuals. It’s also expected to swell the deficit by $1.4 trillion over the next 10 years. And the average taxpayer ends up paying more over the next decade as most of the cuts expire.

A fiscal conservative group will spend more than a million dollars on an advertising campaign to target Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) on tax reform.

Americans for Prosperity will launch ads in three states – Indiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin – to put pressure on Democratic senators to back the GOP tax reform effort in Congress.

The 30-second ad, which starts running Friday, emphasizes the need for tax cuts.

President Donald Trump called the GOP’s tax reform plan a “middle class miracle” as he rolled out details in a speech in Indianapolis Wednesday.

Trump said tax reforms passed in Indiana before and during Vice President Mike Pence’s time as governor should be a model for national change.

Pence Offers Few Details On Tax Reform During Visit To Anderson

Sep 22, 2017

Vice President Mike Pence returned to Indiana Friday to call for federal tax reform. And, as expected, Pence asked all of Indiana’s Congressional delegation – including Democrat, Sen. Joe Donnelly – to support the efforts.

Pence gave no details about specific ways to reform the federal tax code at an appearance in Anderson. He says taxes would be lower for working families, small businesses and family farms – a line Hoosiers will remember from his term as governor. Pence says President Donald Trump will sign a tax cut by the end of the year, with one goal in mind.
