Crews isolated the two breaks Monday at Owensboro Municipal Utilities’ Plant A and repaired them overnight. The utility company says water pressure should return Tuesday afternoon, but the boil order will remain in place while crews flush the water system. The company says state officials will most likely lift the order Thursday after an inspection.

OMU spokersperson Sonya Dixon said she is not sure how much water was poured from the breaks, nor does she know the cost of the damage.

A phone call interrupted Danny Sanders’ sleep this morning.

"My alarm’s set for 6:30 and my phone rang at like 6:08, and I recognized the phone number for the police department, and I was like ‘Aw, somebody done broke into my car lot,'" he said. "But when they told me it was underwater I was like ‘Oh my gosh. Monday morning, right after a holiday week.'"

Sanders owns Sanders Auto Mart. It’s a car dealership on 4th street near Owensboro Municipal Utilities’ (OMU) Plant A, where a water main broke early Monday morning. Water poured from the break and into Sanders’ business.

A number of Tri-State roads remain closed as the Ohio River continues to rise slowly.

Heavy rain on Saturday flooded dozens of roadways and caused the city of Evansville’s sewer system to reach its capacity.

The rain ended by Sunday morning but the Ohio River is still rising, and forecasters predict it won’t crest until Wednesday.

As of noon Monday, the Ohio at Evansville was just below 46 feet – nearly 4 feet above flood stage.
