Ground is broken for a new residential and business development in Downtown Evansville. 

The President and CEO of the Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana led the groundbreaking at Third and Vine streets, next to Bru Burger…

Greg Wathen said the $40 million complex will provide 144 apartments, along with retail and office space…

 "Within an environment that will test new engery technology and smart appliances in a way that you do it at scale before companies like Vectren would take it system-wide."

Stone Family Center Officially Opens

Downtown Evansville was teeming with young adults in white coats Thursday morning. They gathered in the ballroom of the Old National Events Plaza for the dedication ceremony for the Stone Family Center for Health Sciences. 

"I take great pride and feel deep gratitude in presenting these symbolic keys to the Stone Family Center for Health Sciences," said Sarah Schuler, president of Evansville-based architecture firm VPS, as she handed keys to the presidents of Indiana University, the University of Evansville, and the University of Southern Indiana.

Vectren working on downtown grid

Vectren says it’s working to improve the electrical grid in Downtown Evansville.

Vectren Energy Delivery says crews will complete five grid modernization and expansion projects to meet the demands of the growing downtown.

In a news release, the utility company said two of the projects consist of underground cable replacement, which includes replacing aging infrastructure and retrofitting existing manholes lids.

Another two projects will replace network transformers serving several downtown-area buildings.

City council next stop for EID

The effort to get more money for improvements to downtown Evansville took a step forward Thursday.

Josh Armstrong, the downtown alliance director for the Southwest Indiana Chamber, said they reached the threshold of downtown property owners who support the formation of a downtown economic improvement district. He said the petitions represent fifty one percent of the property owners and seventy percent of the property values in the district.
