EPD: Domestic violence claimed 3 lives

Evansville Police say Sunday’s shootings that killed 3 people were acts of domestic violence. 

Police Sgt. Jason Cullum Department said 32-year-old Maygen Sears had obtained a restraining order against her husband, 33-year-old Daniel Sears, and was seeking a divorce.

Cullum said she contacted police the day before the killings about threats he had made, prompting police to look for Daniel Sears on preliminary charges of Intimidation and Invasion of Privacy…

A study by the Centers for Disease Control concluded that nearly one in three women  and one in four men in the United States have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

Brenda Blackmon wrote a book, titled "Living in the Black," about her abusive relationship to open the floodgates for public conversation. Local playwright Stanley S. Jackson Sr. adapted her story into a musical, which debuts in Henderson Saturday.
