Western KY fire claims nine lives

Nine bodies have been recovered from the scene of a house fire in western Kentucky. Two persons escaped the flames.

State Police Trooper Stu Recke says all 11 people inside the house in the Depoy community of Muhlenberg County were members of the same family. He says the children ranged in age from a toddler to teenagers.

Recke says an adult and child escaped the early morning blaze. He says the adult that got out told first responders that the rest of the family was still inside the burning house.

Trooper Paul Blanton says the remains of six people were recovered by mid-morning Thursday. Three more were found later in the day. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
