USI seeking tuition hike; hearing next week

The University of Southern Indiana will conduct a public hearing next week on a proposed tuition increase.

A news release from USI says the university is seeking a $200 increase for full-time, in-state, undergraduates for the 2015-2016 school year -- to about $6900.

Another $200 increase is proposed for the following school year, raising full-time in-state tuition and fees to about $7100.

USI President Dr. Linda Bennett says the increases are needed to “meet ongoing operational expenses.”

A hearing on the proposed increases is set for Wednesday, June 3 at 2:00 p.m. in Forum Two of the Wright Administration Building.

USI is not following the lead of IU and Purdue, both of which are proposing tuition freezes.
