Trump rally to draw thousands, restrict traffic

Traffic restrictions are in place as President Trump visits Downtown Evansville Thursday evening.

The city says vehicle and pedestrian traffic are prohibited in specific areas around the Ford Center and Old National Events Plaza.

The president is expected to attend a fundraiser at the Events Plaza followed by a rally at the Ford Center.

Evansville Police Sgt. Jason Cullum says security will be tight…

"We will have numerous officers from various law enforcement agencies will be working with the Secret Service to secure the areas that need to be secured, and once that has been done there will be zero access to those areas. So we will communicate with the public if they have questions about how they get from point A to point B if the direct route is  blocked off."

Officials say Main Street in front of the Ford Center will be accessible to pedestrians only, and additional closure information will not be announced ahead of time.

Parking for the event is available in the Civic Center’s “Back 40” parking lot, and in the city-owned parking garages at 6th and Sycamore, 5th and Locust, and 3rd and Locust.

Parking for the disabled will be on Sycamore, by the police department.

METS buses are also running, with the METS terminal just two blocks from the Ford Center.

Note: Complicating the downtown traffic situation is Riverside Drive. It's closed between Court and Cherry streets for this weekend's HydroFest. The detour is 2nd St.
